1. Linden at NAFSA
The NAFSA conference in Montreal was a great opportunity
for all of us to network with our colleagues, listen
to some incredibly inspiring plenary addresses and attend
several informative sessions on recruiting and admissions.
For those of you who are interested in learning more
about the following session - "3-Year bachelor
Degree Programs from India: Placement Perspectives";

NAFSA conference in Montreal.

2. Application Deadline for the
Fall 2006 Tours
There are a few places remaining on our Fall 2006
tours. We already have a strong group of universities
signed up in every region, and we expect to have a very
rewarding recruiting season. We have extended our application
deadline until June 30. Please visit the site, www.lindentours.com,
for complete information
Here are some of the highlights:
India
India remains a strong and vital market. Since Linden
focuses on both undergraduate and graduate students,
we are poised to continue to provide successful tours
to South Asia. The Linden India Tour also includes two
unique features: separate hours at the University Fairs
for undergraduates and one-on-one interview sessions
with qualified students the day after the fairs.
This fall, the tour visits seven key cities and then
continues on to Colombo, Sri Lanka for its final stop.
Although the market in Sri Lanka is small, it is growing
and the Sri Lankan students are eager to meet with U.S.
university representatives, primarily to discuss undergraduate
programs.
Latin America
Lindens three-week tour focuses on a distinctly
different sub-region each week. We begin in Central
America and visit Honduras, El Salvador and Panama.
The second week highlights South America, with visits
to two cities in Ecuador (Quito and Guayaquil) and two
in Colombia (Bogota and Barranquilla). The stop in Barranquilla
will provide an opportunity for students and counselors
from Cartagena to join us.
We end the tour with three stops in the Caribbean. We
are visiting the Dominican Republic and Jamaica for
the first time and returning to Trinidad and Tobago
for the third time.
Asia
Asia continues to be the largest sending region
of students, accounting for 58% of all international
students in the U.S. An expected economic recovery in
Japan and continued growth in China should help fuel
a GDP growth of 7.2% in East Asia.
In Asia, we have joined IIE in several locations
principally Tokyo- as requested by tour members from
previous tours. We are also returning to Jakarta after
several years and adding Vietnam for the first time.
Interest from Vietnamese students has risen dramatically
in the past few years, with the latest IIE report showing
an increase of 16% in the number of students coming
to the U.S.
Turkey and the Middle East
The region presents an exceptionally unique student
market from which to recruit. Students are well qualified,
highly motivated and financially capable. Places at
local universities remain limited and, importantly,
governments continue to fund students.
Lindens extensive connections with Embassy staff,
educational advisers, marketing firms, AMIDEAST, schools
and universities will provide exceptional inroads for
universities recruiting in the region. This years
tour begins with an in-depth, weeklong visit to Turkey,
stopping in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara and then continues
on to the Middle East.
Scandinavia
Sweden and Norway are unique among European countries
because they continue to offer subsidized loan, scholarship
and stipend funding for their students to study abroad.
This makes study at U.S. universities and colleges an
option that many may not have considered. The robust
economies of Iceland, Norway and Sweden also provide
additional incentive to consider study in the U.S. The
strength of their educational systems, the government
funding options and the historical ties to study in
the U.S. make this student market a viable option for
our first recruitment tour to Scandinavia.

3. Spring 2007 Tours
The dates and prices for our 2007 spring tours will
be posted on our
web site, www.lindentours.com,
next week.

4. The Judy de Souza
Award
Every year at the Linden Reunion, we honor the memory
of Judy DeSouza who worked for Linden from 1987-1999,
and died of breast cancer. Judy's talents were to make
everyone feel special as well as comfortable and effective
while traveling on the Linden Tours. She was an incredibly
lovely woman to work with.
This year's Judy DeSouza award winner is Linda Heaney.
Her contributions to international education professionals
young and seasoned is incomparable and there is no other
individual that we felt was more deserving than Linda.
